Watering

You should water your Bonsai every day during the summer, and on really hot days, you should water them twice. During the cooler months, your bonsai just needs to be watered once every 2 to 3 days.

Watering your Bonsai may be done in a variety of methods, depending on the amount of time you have available and the size of your collection:

  • One method of watering is to fill a container halfway with water, submerge the Bonsai, and wait for the bubbles to stop. When the bubbles have ceased, the potting mix in the container has attained saturation, and you may remove the Bonsai for the day.
  • Another method is to water your Bonsai by hand with the hose, as long as you have a watering attachment with a delicate rose on the end that directs the water carefully onto your Bonsai. You may need to return to the same plant a few times to ensure that the water drains completely to the bottom of the pot and out the drainage hole.
  • Setting up automated sprinklers or drips is the third method of watering. It doesn’t consume a lot of time. The sprinklers may be programmed to come on at various intervals throughout the day. Check your Bonsai often, especially on windy days, since the spray jets might be affected by strong winds and fail to reach to provide the same level of coverage.
