Wiring

We can train a branch or the trunk of a tree to grow in the desired direction by wrapping Aluminium Wire around it. The wire is essentially a training tool that aids in the shaping of our plants while also supporting the branch or trunk as we bend it. The bulk of the tree should be wired to ensure uniformity in the angles of your plant's branches and a more consistent appearance.

What is the best way to attach the wire to a branch? When wiring up a trunk line, it should be secured at the base of the trunk by pressing it a few centimetres into the earth.

Points to consider while wiring a bonsai:
  • When wiring a plant, always run the wires in the same direction. Crossing wires is undesirable because it increases the pressure on the crossed parts, causing the wire to cut in much more quickly in that region.
  • If only one branch is to be wired, to secure it, tie a few loops around the trunk to provide an anchor point.
  • Place two wires of the same or different gauges around a trunk or branch for added support when bending heavy branches or a trunk for added wiring strength.
  • If you wish to wire a branch down, put the wire across the top of the branch's junction where it joins the trunk. If you wish to elevate the branch, run the wire below the branch's junction where it joins the trunk.
  • If it's completely covered in wire, there's no room for movement, hence limit the amount of wire used.
